Original East German book from 1988.  This book was issued in different editions and with different photos and illustrations every couple of years and it was given to every single east german army recruit on the first day of their army service in order to help them better understand who and what they were serving in the army for.  The book contains a good number of superb photographs and in text illustrations. This particular book is very, very scarce in that it is particularly issued for recruits to the East German Border Guards, the Grenztruppen. The book is subtitled Ratgeber fuer den Grenzsoldaten and unlike the 'ordinary' book of this type, this contains hints and tips and photographs specific to East German border guards only. The book is hardback and has a total of 87 numbered pages + photo pages. It measures 7 3/4” x 5”. Unpacked weight of the book is 0.23kg. Used condition.
